KATRINA CALLING
I work at the parish, the Orleans county seat
at that 911 line- I'm the voice you meet
On one August evening, the wind began to blow
Water just kept rising, with that ringing telephone
Ever since that evening, my heart ain't been the same
Haunted by the voices, that I heard and could not save
Long as I remember, all I wanted to do
Was find a way to help folks, that was something that felt true
8.50 an hour, I barely could get by
It always seemed worth it, to help and save a life
Ever since that evening, my heart ain't been the same
Haunted by the voices, that I heard and could not save
Couldn't save, the voices of the elders
Couldn't save, the voices of the young
Couldn't save the voices of the broken
the voices of the lonely, the voices of the loved
Sometimes in the evening, I lay awake alone
I pray for those voices, and for those voices souls
Pray they found redemption, for all that they went through
I pray for forgiveness, for all I could not do
Ever since that evening, Life ain't been the same
Haunted by the voices, that I heard and could not save
